About Dave

Dave Oldfield has recently recovered from prostate cancer following treatment at Weston Park Hospital. He has lived in Sheffield for all his life and has always been a runner.

Before coaching, Dave competed as a track athlete, running the 100m, 200m and 400m before moving up to long-distance running when he turned 35. The transition proved to be a good move, with 16 marathons under his belt and a first place at the Berlin vets in 1989 with an incredible time of 2hr 28 min.

Dave has always been keen to support new runners and give his encouragement and advice. Many of the Sheffield Running Club were novices when they started and now enjoy the fun and satisfaction of running together. Over 50 men and women now train regularly at a pace that is right for them and compete across the region.
